Dryer Sheets…are they safe?

If you know me, you know I rave about wool dryer balls. And I suppose I am partial by saying that Klemmentine’s are the BEST wool dryer balls because we sell them but also because I know how much love is put into each and every ball. And our are not made with string, they are made with alpaca and llama wool and are felted. But let’s talk about why they are better for you than conventional dryer sheets. You will hear me say this a million times…our skin is our biggest organ. It’s like a sponge and absorbs EVERYTHING which is why it is so important for us to change the environment we live in but more importantly, change the products we are using every day that are being absorbed into our skin. This is a short article about what is in your dryer sheets and what those chemicals actually do to your body:

Dryer Sheets Cause Hormone Imbalance, Neurotoxicity, Respiratory Problems, & Even Cancer

Your clothes come in direct contact with your skin, so every day you are absorbing those chemicals. People say to me that they love the way their clothes smell: clean, flowery, fresh. But those fragrances are synthetic and toxic. The alternative is wool dryer balls and essential oils. Wool dryer balls bounce in your dryer, lifting your clothes and absorbing water which cuts down drying time by 25% (energy saving!). They also fluff your clothes and towels better. They will take the stiffness out of clothes that are dried outside on the clothesline. It is recommended for you to use at least 3 dryer balls (up to 6 depending on your load size). My favorite part is the last 10 minutes of your drying cycle, you can add a few drops of essential oils to your dryer balls and create a healthy, natural smell of your own without the harsh toxins. Your body will reap the benefits of the essential oils as well. WIN WIN! Here are a few scent combinations for you to try:

3 balls of Lavender and 3 balls of Orange (Lemon is also a really good oil to use with Lavender)

1 drop of Melaleuca and Orange on each dryer ball

2 balls of Peppermint and 1 ball of Ylang Ylang

1 drop each of Purification and Thieves (Young Living Oils)

We also sell an absolutely AMAZING spray by Essential Infused Creations which is a blend of citrus oils. My daughter, Kayli, says that it makes her clothes smell like Lemonade.

Now let’s talk about cost. Dryer sheets cost around $8.99 for the family pack. We purchased one family pack per month. That’s $107 per year savings!! And well-made dryer balls can last around 5 years! So you could be saving up to $535 over time!

Some other great tips:
Use white vinegar in your wash to reduce static cling and soften clothes. (Your clothes will not smell like vinegar)
Add a safety pin to your dryer balls to eliminate static cling in larger items like towels and blankets.
